Burnet powerlifters take advantage of last regular season meet, qualify for regionals

The Burnet High School powerlifting team competed at the San Saba Last Chance qualifying meet Feb. 16 in a last attempt to automatically qualify for the regional meet.
Female powerlifters received Invitations Feb. 20 to the regional meet, which is in Dublin March 3. Representing Burnet are Hailee Beltran, Madeline Cardenas, Alexis Leatherwood, Lainey Rye, Abby Smith, Josie Teague, Kasey Watson, Kimberly Watson and Emmalee Williams.
Burnet had five boys and six girls compete in San Saba.
In the girls division, Kimberly Watson came back with a silver medal thanks to a squat of 275 pounds, a bench press of 145 pounds, and a deadlift of 275 pounds for a total weight of 695 pounds, which is a new personal best.
Teague also returned with a silver medal by squatting 235 pounds, bench pressing 130 pounds, and deadlifting 225 pounds for a total of 590 pounds, which is a new personal best.
Leatherwood earned a bronze medal with a squat of 280 pounds, a bench press of 115 pounds, and a deadlift of 300 pounds for a total of 695 pounds.
Beltran set new personal bests in every lift, resulting in fourth place with a squat of 195 pounds, a bench press of 110 pounds, and a deadlift of 230 pounds for a total of 535 pounds.
Kenley Currie finished seventh by squatting 165 pounds, bench pressing 105 pounds, and deadlifting 205 pounds for a total of 475 pounds for a new personal best.
Gracie Wiggs set a new personal best in the squat at 200 pounds and bench pressed 110 pounds.
Every Bulldog competing set new personal bests in every category.
Luke Hudgins finished second with a 455-pound squat, a 300-pound bench press, and a 500-pound deadlift for a total of 1,255 pounds.
Jack Vannartsen returned with a bronze medal by squatting 450 pounds, bench pressing 330 pounds, and deadlifting 450 pounds for a total of 1,230 pounds.
Brandon Westbrook also earned a bronze medal with a 495-pound squat, a 270-pound bench press, and a 445-pound deadlift for a total of 1,210 pounds.
Johnny Charron came in fourth with a 295-pound squat, a 265-pound bench press, and a 390-pound deadlift for a total of 1,050 pounds.
Adler Goehring was fifth with a 315-pound squat, a 180-pound bench press, and a 365-pound deadlift for a total of 1,050 pounds.
Regional qualifiers for the boys will be announced next week.
